Richmond’s horse pull is this Saturday, June 18

RICHMOND—The draft horse pull and open horse show that are usually held during Richmond’s Black and White Days celebration will be held this Saturday, June 18, in the field behind LD’s Café. Organizers have draft horse teams entered from throughout the northwest and Canada.

All horse events in May were cancelled due to an outbreak of the deadly equine herpes virus (EHV-1). With the outbreak over, Richmond’s horse pull and horse show committees rescheduled the events for Saturday.

“Richmond’s draft horse pull is one of the more popular pulls with teams around the region,” says council member Jeff Young. “We have folks come from all over the west to participate.

Activities start at 4:30 p.m. with a fun pull featuring teams who aren’t quite ready for the intensity of competition. These pulls let the horses experience the sights and sounds of a ‘real’ pull but without the pressure of competition.

At 7:00 p.m., the draft horse pull begins. All weight classes will be represented. With 25 teams (five from within Cache Valley), the action will be non-stop.

Tickets for the pulls are available beginning at 4:00 p.m. Cost is $4 for 12 years old and up; $2 for ages 5 to 11; under 5 are free. Food vendors will be set up around pulling field.

The open horse show is free. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and the show events start at 10:00 a.m.
