My name is Brent C Buttars.

I am a current on the Smithfield City Council.

Why are you seeking to serve on the Smithfield City Council?

I have enjoyed my association with the good people of Smithfield. I have been able to work with many people from other cities in the valley, also. I have had a great experience. We have had many accomplishments to be proud of and I would like to continue serving and working for the city.

Describe your most important personal characteristics or traits as they relate to the office you seek.

I am willing to work and stick to a job until it is finished. I also feel that I have really tried to listen to the people and to balance what is good for the city and the people for the present as well as the future.

Please describe one to three accomplishments or contributions of which you are most proud. These examples should illustrate skills and capabilities you think apply to the office you are seeking. These accomplishments may have occurred at any time during your personal, professional or public life.

I have served in many different positions in my life, both in my church responsibilities and with the Smithfield Lions club, where I have had the opportunity to serve others and help them in many different ways. In my work I am responsible to make decisions and work to accomplish desired results. I have also served as the liaison between the City Council and the Planning and Zoning Committee.

Please describe the duties of the office you seek, in your own words. Which are the most important duties and why?

As a member of the Smithfield City Council I feel that it is my job to balance the desires of my constituencies with the components that are best for the entire city and its future.

What previous experience do you have running a business, managing employees or controlling a budget?

I am in a position where I have to deal with following environmental issues and regulations. I am also often in charge of different crews. I have served as the president of the Lions Club on two different occasions.

What do you consider the most important issue facing our town today?

The lack of tax revenue coming into the city because of the downward economy.

What do you want to accomplish during the next 2 years?

I would like to see our city become stronger both in financial strength and in citizens and government working closer together to keep our community one that we can all be proud of.
