HYRUM—Thursday night the Sky View Bobcat girls team took on cross town rivals, the Mountain Crest Mustangs. The game was extremely competitive the entire time, with both sides playing hard, and keeping it close. While the Mustangs never held the lead during the game, it was constantly a close game, and even a tied one. All the excitement of the game culminated in the fourth quarter, when the Mustangs made a comeback that made the last few seconds of the game extremely exciting. The lady Bobcats came out triumphant with a score of 52 to 50.

The first quarter started off with incredible defensive play from both teams, with no points being scored for the first 2:50 of the game. The lady Bobcats ran a tough full court press on the Mustangs, and kept doing it the entire game. This was clearly effective, as there were several steals off the inbound during the game. The non-scoring streak was broken by Skyviews Amy Andrus, #51, who was also the high scorer for the game. After Andrus broke the streak, it was back and forth for most of the first half. Whenever the Bobcats would score, the Mustangs would answer right back. However the Bobcats were able to pull ahead by the end of the quarter, leaving it 13 to 10.

The second quarter went very much like the first quarter did. Skyview held a steady lead through most of the quarter, but weren’t able to pull ahead by much. The Mustangs would always retaliate after made shots, and the Bobcats never got more than six ahead. Both teams entered the bonus this quarter, and Mountain Crest ended with eight fouls, and Skyview had seven. However the Mustangs weren’t able to put together a good comeback, and the half ended with Skyview 28, and Mountain Crest 22.

The halftime show was a contest, where people in the audience could buy a piece of paper for a dollar, fold it into an airplane, and try to land it on two mats in the middle of the court. If they landed it on the mat, they either won free headphones or a day pass to Beaver Mountain. Two people successfully landed their airplane on the mats, and won a prize.

Third quarter starts off slow again, with no points being scored for the first 1:15, when Skyview’s Andrus makes the first shot of the half. However, despite getting four fouls in the first part of the third quarter, they held Mountain Crest to zero points. Mountain Crest finally gets on the board after 4:06 seconds. Skyview extended their lead to nine with only 2:32 seconds left in the quarter; however the Mustangs attempted a comeback. Mountain crest gets six points unchallenged, but it isn’t enough, and the quarter ends with Skyview having a 37 to 30 lead.

The fourth quarter started off just like the rest of the game had, with Skyview holding and steadily extending their lead over the Mustangs. This goes on until there is 2:44 left in the game, both teams were in bonus, and Mountain Crest pulls up alongside Skyview, and the Mustangs are only down by two. The lady Bobcats were, however, able to pull back ahead, regaining their usual five point lead. The Mustangs pull together a very effective comeback, and within the last 50 seconds of the game, scores six points. With only 10.3 seconds remaining in the game, Skyview has the ball, but is only up by one, with a score of 51-50. They bounce the ball in, and #51 Amy Andrus is immediately fouled, and put to the line. She sinks the first shot, getting a second chance, but cannot connect. With the Bobcats up by two, Mountain Crest gets the rebound and takes it down the court. They shoot twice, but neither of them connect. The Skyview Bobcats end the game 52-50, in a very well earned victory.
