Starting this September three Lady Bobcats from Sky View will become Rattlers in Colorado. Friday afternoon Aubry Boehme, Taylor Rock, and Nicole Hansen signed letters of intent — and received full-ride scholarships — to attend Otero Junior College in LaJunta, Colorado. “They will only be responsible for books,” said Taylor Wagner, head coach of the women’s basketball team.

Coach Wagner went on to say that they’ve never had three freshman players from the same team. But he’s very excited to have all three in his school. Wagner said that some students are unbalanced at school. Some students focus more on athletics, others on their social lives or on academics. Taylor, Aubry, and Nicole are balanced, said Wagner, equally in their lives.

Aubry Boehme is a 6-foot senior from Smithfield, Utah. She finished senior season with 12 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.6 steals, 2.0 assists and 2.8 blocks per game. She made first team for the coaches awards and second team in the Salt Lake Tribune and Herald Journal all-star teams. She is known as a great defender and an excellent all around ball player.

Nicole Hansen, the 5-foot-7 guard from Amalga, Utah. She averaged 12 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.3 steals per game. Yet it’s her ability to work with the whole team and get the ball to the right player at the right time — at 7.2 assists per game — that makes Nicole so valuable to any team. The valley coaches, Salt Lake Tribune, and the Herald Journal all named Nicole as first team all-star player.

Taylor Rock’s season ended after only five games her senior year when she tore her ACL. At 5-foot-9 this Smithfield native had already made a name for herself as a sold shooter. In her junior year on the JV squad she made 31 field goals and 53 2-pointers. Wagner said that Coach Hansen backed Rock saying she would be a solid shooter at Otero. Her hard work to return to the court impressed Wagner and the athletic department at Otero. Wagner said it’s says a lot about a player when they overcome an injury.
