Veteran lacrosse coach Jonathan Atwood steps down

Smithfield — After nine seasons as head coach of the Sky View Bobcats Lacrosse team, co-founder and current Head Coach Jonathan Atwood is stepping down.

Atwood began coaching at Sky View in 2002. He has coached over 150 players, is a 2006 Utah Coach of the year and 2007 US Lacrosse Coach of the year. Atwood has lead his team to win the 2002 Cache Valley Championship, three conference championships (‘07,’08,’09) and is the 2009 state champion runner up. Coach Atwood has coached 108 games going 61-47. During 2008- 2009 Atwood went undefeated at home and is 32 -11 in his last 3 seasons.

“This is not an easy decision to make. I love the players, I love coaching and I love Sky View, but I need to pursue other interests at this time.”

Since starting up Sky View, Atwood has grown the program from 31 players in 2002 to include a Varsity, Jr Varsity, Soph/Fresh team, two 7/8 grade teams, a 6/5/4 grade team, and a men’s league team.
