Lady Bobcats smash Woods Cross
Maybe losing four seniors from last year’s winning team hurt the Lady Bobcats, but after Thursday’s 18-point victory over Woods Cross (61-43) — maybe not.
Skyview jumped out to an early lead, each of the first five field goals scored by different players as they went on an 11-0 run. The Lady Bobcats held Woods Cross scoreless until just over 3 minutes remaining in the first quarter when Wildcat Kellie Hoggan was fouled on a driving layup and made the ensuing free throw.
Natalie Parsons hit two jumpshots to help the Wildcats claw their way back to within three at the end of the first quarter, but Skyview would hold Parsons scoreless and go on a 16-5 run in the second quarter to go up 45-31 at halftime.
Lady Bobcat forward Linsey Walker led Skyview with 19 points and 14 rebounds as she dominated from the inside.
“We played well, it was really good for us,” Walker said. “Defensively we were talking it up and covering each other’s backs.”
Skyview head coach Paul Hansen said Walker played strong and physical.
“She likes to score,” Hansen said. “She’s a strong girl and has got strong hands and sharp elbows.”
Cortney Ballard would add 14 points, including 6 in the third quarter. She would also notch 11 rebounds.
“Our girls did amazing,” Walker said. “We knew what we wanted and went after it.”
Hansen said he felt his offense was able to do what they wanted.
“I thought the people we played, played well,” Hansen said. “We got shots.”
Parsons would match Walker with 19 points in the loss. With her range on display, the Woods Cross standout hit 4 three-pointers, 2 of which were well beyond the line.
Hansen said he was impressed with Parsons.
“Parsons is a good shooter,” Hansen said. “She requires a great defensive effort.”
Aarika Anderson and Christine Cole would combine to give Woods Cross 17 points and 5 three-pointers.
After losing their first game to Lone Peak, the win brings Skyview to 1-1 on the season. Their next game will be on the road against Mountain View in Orem this Friday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m.
Woods Cross will next host Provo on Monday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m.
