Lady Bobcats tame Grizzlies
Junior guard Dannika Webb dropped 20 points and Sophomore forward Maddie Day added 11 points as the Sky View Bobcats soundly defeated the Logan Grizzlies, 66-47 at Logan Gym Tuesday night. With the win, Sky View improves to 6-5 (4-1 Region 5), while the Grizzlies drop to 7-3 (2-3 Region 5) with the loss.
Webb led the Bobcats in a huge first half, scoring 16 of her 20 points, and the Bobcats never looked back.
“Of course, when you got Webb out there on the floor, good things are gonna happen,” Sky View head coach Paul Hansen said.
The junior guard also had seven steals on the night.
“We seemed to be just a step faster than they were all night. The girls relaxed and played a pretty solid game tonight. We took care of the basketball. The girls did their thing. It was a pretty good game for us.”
Tough physical post play and defense also limited the Grizzlies’ scoring. Sophomore guard Serena Hererra led the Grizzlies with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
“That’s a good team … physical … we’ve got to learn to match their physicality,” Grizzlies head coach Kelly Bennet said.
The Bobcats were really able shut down Grizzlies post player Lauren Mott and Bezait Anbesse. Mott finished with 10 points while Anbesse had three.
“When we executed the things that we asked them to do, we got lots of steals and did some things that we wanted to,” Bennet said. “When we were a little bit slow getting into fronting the low posts, and stuff like that, then they got whatever they wanted. We just have to be better at executing the things we talked about in practice and then we’ll be OK.”
The only category the Bobcats did not dominate was rebounds, as the Grizzlies won the rebounding battle 38-32.
“I think we rebounded pretty good,” Bennett said.
Sky View will continue Region 5 action as they host the Box Elder Bee’s on Thursday, and Logan will host valley rival Mtn. Crest.
