Sky View booster club auction a huge success
On March 19th the Sky View Booster Club held a fund raising auction that raised nearly $20,000 to support the activities of the Booster Club and the athletic programs at Sky View.
It takes a lot of money to keep the athletic programs afloat at the high school level. The Booster Club at Sky View is responsible for assisting with concessions at athletic events, helping to raise money though the gathering of advertising and support from various vendors for each of the sports at Sky View, and a host of other activities.
Currently the Booster Club Board of Directors is made up of President: Lloyd Berentzen, Vice President: Dave Oliverson, Secretary: Stacey Blauer, Treasurer: Sue Rock, and Concessions: Ann Burger. This group of individuals worked tirelessly alongside school administration, coaches, and student athletes to make this year’s fund raiser a huge success.
The auction consisted of a dinner at $10 per plate where lasagna prepared by the Bridgerland Applied Technology College culinary program was served. The dinner also included salads, and bread sticks that were donated by Shaeffer’s Bakery, and the Olive Garden, followed by desert in the form of Casper’s Ice Cream Fat Boys ice cream sandwiches.
Also taking place during the dinner was a silent auction with baskets provided by various donors throughout the valley and a raffle of other donated items. Service during the dinner was provided by student athletes who delivered food and drink to those in attendance, then bussed the tables when dinner was over. Raising money for their sport in the form of tips paid by the dinner attendees.
Towards the end of the dinner the live auction took place with auctioneer Scott McKendrick lending his nimble tongue and agile vocal cords to the proceedings. McKendrick donated his time and services to help raise funds for the worthy cause. Various venders donated items to the auction ranging from a fine glass dinette set to the latest in home exercise equipment with the donation of a top of the line treadmill.
Donations too many to mention here were generously donated by various businesses and individuals from throughout the valley. The generosity did not stop with those who donated auction items. The crowd of more than 400 attendees opened their hearts and wallets in support of the program. In addition to the tips given to the athletes for their sports participants gave generously by purchasing items from the live auction, in many cases paying far more than the value of the items donated.
Cache Valley’s own superstar “Wild Bill”, Bill Sproat and his family were in attendance. Sproat a former wrestling stand out at Sky View still holds the record with the fastest pin in a match at Sky View with a 5 second victory during his senior year. Also recognized by the Booster Club during the proceedings was Athletic Director Jan Hall, who received the Utah High School Activities Association 2010 Athletic Director of the Year award.
The Booster Club wishes to offer their heartfelt appreciation to all of the businesses and individuals that donated their time, energies, and auction items to make this year’s dinner one of the most successful fundraisers in Sky view history. The Booster Club also wishes to thank those that attended the dinner and helped by bidding on and purchasing the items available at the auction. Booster club board member Ann Burger commented, “It is a testament to the generosity and goodness of the people of this community in how they participated even during these very difficult economic times. We just cannot begin to offer a big enough thank you the businesses and individuals who contributed both their time and money to make this year’s fundraiser a success.”
