2011 Health Days underway

In spite of the rain, Smithfield Health Days 2011 are underway. The forecast for the big events this weekend is warm and sunny. It looks like it will be a fantastic day of fun if the creek, literally, doesn’t rise. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Dave Anderson sent pictures from the recent Health Days Scholarship Program where Kirsten Nelson, Morgan Taylor, Nanette Hunsaker, Makell Moore, and Tessa Herrman were crowned this year’s Health Days Royalty.

A couple events remain this week leading up to Saturday’s big day.

Music Competition

Stratford Loosley Smithfield Health Days Young Musicians Competition at Sky View High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Children’s Theater

Smithfield Children’s Theatre presents Ali Baba & The Forty Thieves this Friday and Saturday at the Sky View Auditorium at 7 p.m.


Saturday

6:30 a.m. — Pancake breakfast

Smithfield Fire and Cache County Ambu- lance will host the annual Pancake Breakfast at the fire station, 325 West 100 North. The cost is $5.50 for adults and $4 for kids under 12. Discount tickets are available in advance at Lee’s Marketplace. The discount ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3.50 for kids under 12. Proceeds from the breakfast go to support the fire department. Firefighters will also be collecting funds to “Fill the Boot” for Muscular Dystrophy.

7:30 a.m. — Smithfield Health Days race

Our very popular health days race starts at 7:30am at Mack Park. Last year we had nearly 600 runners come to this race so sign up soon! Chip timing has been added this year and also tech shirts are guaranteed to those who register early. Individuals and families are encouraged to participate.

10 a.m. — Parade

Cheer alongside the streets of Smithfield or choose to be in the parade. Fun and excitement await as community members, students, royalty, local businesses, scouting groups, community teams, and dignitaries pass by on floats playing music, tossing candy and waiving to the crowd!

Parade Route: Begins at Sky View High School, going west on 400 South, then along 100 East to 100 North. The parade committee welcomes participants from scouts, school, church, and other community groups to be a part of the parade.

11 a.m. — Booth & Park activities

Forrester Acres Park comes alive from 11 a.m to 4 p.m. Music entertainment provided by Lovell Studios, will fill the air as you stroll through the assortment of booths and food vendors. There will also be a horse show and little kids rodeo. New this year will be a Dutch Oven demonstration and food auction with proceeds going to Top Sports to help disabled kids participate in sports. Rides and inflatable’s will be available for little kids to have fun on. If you’re really brave, try your luck with the dunking booth.

11 a.m. — Candy Cannon

On the hour every hour until 2 p.m. different age groups will have a chance to collect candy from this fun event.

Noon — Horse Show

If you love horses, you’ll love our Smithfield Health Days Horse Show. Come down to the horse arena at 800 West and Center and watch it all come alive with beautiful horses and people, young and old participating in riding activities for different age groups.

11 a.m. — Dutch Oven demo & food auction

Come experience world famous Dutch Oven cooking expert Curtis Wall and many of his close friends. They will have demos and of all kinds of recipes to share. There will be a food auction at 2 pm. Proceeds from the food auction will go towards Tops Sports to help disabled kids play sports.

2 p.m. — Mountain bike

Come enjoy a challenging mountain bike ride starting at Mack Park . Helmets must be worn. Prizes will be raffled for participants and there will be refreshments.

3 p.m. — Family Rodeo

Goat Roping, calf scramble, mutton busting, stick barrel racing, greased pig chase and wild cow-milking contest.

5 p.m. — Blue Sox & Fireworks

Smithfield Health Days without a Blue Sox game! Come enjoy the game and concessions at the Richard V. Hansen Baseball Park. Also new to the Blue Sox field is the new announcers tower and concession area! After the game enjoy a fireworks show sponsored by Smithfield City.
