It was a beautiful evening Thursday as the Sky View girls soccer team played host to the Roy Royals. Sky View jumped out early taking a demanding 3-0 lead only 10 minutes into the game. Their play calmed down after that and no goals were scored until Roy got on the board with 15 minutes left in the first half. With the score 3-1 at half time Roy came out firing on all cylinders in the second half and quickly tied it in the first five minutes of the second half with a pair of goals from Taryn Davies.

When asked what caused Sky View to come out slow in the second half, Jessica Brooksby said, “We just let the first half get to our heads.” Once the game was tied up, Sky View forgot the first half and played like a team with a purpose. It took only 10 minutes before Sky View had reclaimed their two-goal lead and looked to be in full control of the game. In the last 10 minutes, Sky View scored twice to put the game out of reach.

Jessica Brooksby had a hat trick for the Bobcats, scoring three goals and adding an assist. Stacy Bair had two goals and an assist. Shakiah Saltern and Tierra Shaffer also had goals for Sky View. Taryn Davies had two goals and Megan Hirabayashi had one goal for Roy.

“It’s all about getting better every game,” said Coach Geddes. Coach Geddes expressed that the team’s ultimate goal was to go far in the state tournament “I think [tonight] is another step in the right direction.”

Stacy Bair, one of the team captains, said in a postgame interview that the team went back to their old formation, which has brought them back to playing more as a team. Bair gave the warning to the teams that have beat them before that they “better be ready”.

This season has been up and down winning four of their first five games. During this stretch they outscored their opponents 17-4 including an 8-0 victory against Morgan. Following this stretch, they lost their next three games, including two against their region foes, Bonneville and Mountain Crest. They are right back on track scoring seven goals in each of their last two games and notching two region victories in the process.
