LOGAN — A Hyde Park man was sentenced to 60 days in the Cache County Jail, avoiding up to 15 years in the Utah State Prison — at least temporarily — Tuesday in 1st District Court.
“After a lengthy audit of Sky View High School’s financial records and an intensive investigation by the Cache County Sheriff’s Office, a former drill team adviser has been charged with theft and forgery. According to court documents, Jackie Lynn Hansen, formerly Jackie Johnson, is accused of embezzling nearly $14,000 in 3 1/2 years.”
On November 25, 2011, Justin Collett, a 30 year old Smithfield resident was arrested by Smithfield City Police for 2nd degree felony child abuse and booked into Cache County Detention Facility. According to information provided by SCPD Detective Sergeant Nick Hidalgo, Mr. Collett’s 16 day old baby was taken to Primary Children’s Hospital on November 24, 2011 due to severe trauma to the infant’s skull and brain. Medical personnel at the Logan Regional Hospital and the Primary Children’s Hospital informed Sgt. Hidalgo that the nature of injuries sustained by the infant were believed to be non-accidental.
A few of Smithfield residents have been hit with small item burglaries and suspicious trespasses. Single personal property items from six different homes or vehicles have been taken since the first of July. They include an iPad, a purse, a fire department handheld radio, gasoline, and serving china. Home stereos and lights have been purposefully left on inside the homes by the burglar(s)/intruders.
LOGAN—A Smithfield woman pleaded guilty to criminal mischief (failing to remain at the scene of an accident) and driving under the influence of alcohol, both class-B misdemeanors, on Dec. 6 in 1st District Court.
LOGAN—In lieu of spending two days in jail, a Smithfield resident was sentenced to 16 hours of community service for her guilty plea to charges of theft. Kristi Phillips, 23, was convicted of theft of a cell phone, a Class B misdemeanor, at the Bridgerland Applied Technology campus on Nov. 4.
“Former fire chief Kyle Lindsay’s felony charges have been reduced to misdemeanors and he will spend ten days in jail as part of a plea deal. Lindsay, 41, resigned as fire chief in August after being arrested for a Smithfield burglary case and being suspected of prescription drug abuse.”

LOGAN—Former Bingham County Coroner Kyle B. Lindsay made his first appearance in Utah’s 1st District Court Tuesday. Lindsay is charged with five felony counts including burglary, possession of a controlled substance and obtaining a prescription drug under false pretenses.

A 36-year old Richmond woman is in jail after allegedly threatening her family with a kitchen knife. A Cache County Sheriff press release states deputies responded to a domestic violence call Monday night at 17 North 185 East, #17 .
LOGAN—Judge Thomas Willmore sentenced a Smithfield man to jail time, fines and drug and alcohol rehabilitation Wednesday after telling him he was insufficiently punished for similar offenses as a minor.
LOGAN—Jesus Patino, 21, of Smithfield was sentenced to 45 days in jail in 1st District Court on Monday.
SMITHFIELD—A 20-year-old Smithfield woman was arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail on counts of burglary, theft and forgery. Loren Hansen was arrested by detective Wes Land of the Logan City Police Department on Nov. 19. She was released after posting bail.
LOGAN—Smithfield resident Joshua Lee Thalman, 28, pleaded guilty Nov. 3 in 1st District Court to three misdemeanors in a domestic violence case. He will be sentenced Nov. 30 at 9 a.m.
