We will be celebrating the spirit of the great Dr. Seuss and his contribution to children’s literacy by sharing stories, dressing up as our favorite book characters (Miss Karen is going to be Pete the Cat who will you be?) and taking home a birthday gift (a new book for your home library)!
Dr. Seuss’s birthday was on March 2, and local children celebrated it with a half hour of reading, dancing, and singing at Smithfield’s youth center.
They squirmed, giggled, laughed, ran around, and had a blast. Hundreds of children came to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday Tuesday afternoon at the Smithfield Youth Center. Some dressed up as Seuss characters but even Star Wars Storm Troopers and Winnie The Pooh came. Stories were read, prizes given away and in the end the children left with a brand new book of their very own.
