Last week the Bobcats put another win in the books with a defeat of the Highland Rams. The win came in the first round of the 4A State Football Playoffs. They pack up their pads and take their 9-2 record south to take on Timpview in a second round playoff game this afternoon.
After a disappointing loss to region foe and valley rival Logan, Sky View recorded a pair of key region wins. The Bobcats won a hard fought battle two weeks ago against the Box Elder Bees with a 28-23 victory in a Thursday night game. They followed that up this week with a pre-UEA weekend drubbing of the Ogden High Tigers by posting a 52-0 Wednesday night win.
The Sky View Bobcats split a pair of valley rival games beating Mountain Crest 49-16 two weeks ago, but found themselves over matched in a 52-21 Thursday night loss at Logan.
Homecoming week is always sweeter with a victory on the football field. The gridiron action did not disappoint on Friday night as the Bobcats struck first and put up a 59-14 victory over the Provo Bulldogs.

The Bobcats played a close first half, but pulled away in the second to defeat the Wolverines from Hunter High School 27-45 Friday night in their pre-season home opener.
At the beginning of the season the Sky View Bobcat football team was picked to finish last in the region. Against all odds and as the underdogs in most every game this season the Bobcats battled to a second place tie in the region. Friday night this Band of Brothers came together and battled for four quarters, and when the final buzzer blared they were on the losing end of the score, but never gave up, they fought to the end.
Sky View traveled to Hillcrest High School in Midvale for a mid-week game and got things done on the ground and in the air, Putting up a shutout against the Huskies the Bobcats scored twice on the ground and five times through the air in a 49-0 route. Sky View closed out the season on a positive note heading into next weeks playoff game against Skyline.
Last minute tragedy was averted Friday night as a late Nick Carver fumble was reversed when Cole Bangerter intercepted a Bonneville pass on the next play to seal the Lakers’ fate and solidify the Bobcat win. The victory puts Sky View in a tie at the region level with Mountain Crest after the Mustangs fell to the Royals on Friday night. An overtime victory by Olympus will have Sky View matched up against Skyline in the first round of the playoffs.
The Sky View Bobcats invited the Roy Royals to town on Friday night and the Bobcats came up victorious; scoring over and over on the turnovers forced by the defense. When the night was over Sky View was crowned the victors beating Roy with a score of 6-to-30. With the victory Sky View moves to 3-5-0 on the season (2-2-0 Region).
The Sky View Bobcats made a short trip to Logan on Friday night, for a trip that in hindsight they may wish they had not made. The offense struggled to get things going on the ground and in the air, while the defense did not have many answers for the Grizzly offense behind DJ Nelson’s arm and ground game. After a 7-67 loss the Bobcats will need to go back to the drawing board and get ready for next week’s game against Roy.
To cap off the Homecoming week celebration, the Sky View Bobcats welcomed the Bees from Box Elder to town on Friday. Coming into the game Sky View at 1-4-0 was the underdog against the 4-1-0 record of Box Elder. However, the Bobcats came to play and defended their house, putting up four scores Sky View exterminated the Bees in a 28-to-13 Homecoming victory.
Valley rivals Mountain Crest Mustangs came to town and battled with the Smithfield Bobcats in a close game that came down to the wire. The Mountain Crest Mustangs scored first, but then the Bobcats mounted an ambush that resulted in two scores in the second quarter. Two Mustang fourth quarter scores would seal the Bobcats fate, and when the dust settled Mountain Crest headed south with the victory.
The Sky View Bobcats did a decent job of containing the passing offense of the Brighton High Bengals Friday night. However, the Bobcats couldn’t cage the Bengals running game giving up over 200 yards on the ground. Falling 3-28 Sky View moves to 1-3 on the season heading opening up region play next week against the valley rival Mountain Crest Mustangs.
Not many people picked Sky View over Olympus in tonight’s match up, as a matter of fact there was just one lone reporter that was brave enough to pick them over the Titans, and according to Head Coach Craig Anhder that reporter was his neighbor. That lone reporter will have bragging rights among his peers this weekend as the Bobcats clawed their way to a victory, dominating on offense, defense and just about every other area of the game.
Last week Head Football Coach Craig Anhder asked his players to come out strong and play hard from the opening kickoff. In the first quarter the Bobcats did just that scoring on a long drive that resulted in a touchdown. The Cats followed up that drive with a kickoff return by Yabitse Wells ran back for a touchdown. Just like that it was 6-14 and Sky View was in the driver’s seat. Unfortunately for Sky View and the full house of loyal fans that was all the scoring the Bobcats would do and the Highland Rams from Pocatello, Idaho took over and methodically put points on the scoreboard, caging the Cats with a final score of 32-14.
The Sky View Bobcats went into Friday night’s game as the underdogs against the 5A powerhouse Northridge Knights. In the first quarter it appeared the odds makers were spot on in their estimation of the match up. But the undersized underdog Bobcats refused to roll over and battled back in a losing effort that saw them fall 13-30.

In six years a Craig Anhder Sky View football team has never been shut out, and last night the Bobcats clawed their way to a last second score to keep that record intact. However, there was little else that went right for Sky View as the Bobcats were trampled by the Mustangs in a 6-38 loss.

After six consecutive Bobcat victories over the Bees, Box Elder hands Sky View their first region loss this year behind the strong running game of junior quarterback, Britton Gunter, and freshman, Shad Watson.

In the second quarter the Bobcats showed some signs of life putting up three scores, but their pulses faded as the high powered Jordan offense handed them a 63-21 defeat.

Emotions ran high Thursday night as Cache Valley rivals Mountain Crest and Sky View met on the gridiron in Smithfield for each team’s final regular season football game of 2009.The game remained close through the first half, but Bobcat mistakes and a powerful Mustang offense allowed Mountain Crest to pull away in the second half, and the Mustangs vacated the field as the victors, defeating the Bobcats 38-17. The 4A top-ranked Mustangs took advantage of multiple Sky View penalties and turnovers to put points on the scoreboard.
SMITHFIELD—Anxious Sky View fans looked on Friday night as the visiting Ogden Tigers took a 14-7 lead early in the second half after Ogden quarterback Nik Allred connected with wide receiver Kel Robbins on a 66-yard touchdown pass. With both teams struggling to score points in the first half, the Bobcats 4-game winning streak appeared to be in jeopardy. That’s when Sky View reeled off 33 unanswered points in the second half to defeat the Tigers convincingly, 40-20.
