The Sky View varsity hockey team played the spotlight “Game of The Week” Saturday afternoon at the E-Center in West Valley. The Bobcats prevailed against the Weber County Independent Wolves. Final score: Bobcats 5, Wolves 4.
SMITHFIELD—Ten years ago Smithfield was given the gift that keeps on giving. The community recreation center opened and has expanded to include many classes and programs as well as a modern facility to help citizens stay fit.
NORTH LOGAN—The annual Pumpkin Walk brings over 50,000 people to North Logan every year said Allan Luce, Director of Parks and Recreation.
HYDE PARK—The Lions Club met Thursday night to discuss ways to better their community such as park construction and management, upcoming Eagle Scout projects, and eyeglasses for local citizens.
In six years a Craig Anhder Sky View football team has never been shut out, and last night the Bobcats clawed their way to a last second score to keep that record intact. However, there was little else that went right for Sky View as the Bobcats were trampled by the Mustangs in a 6-38 loss.
The Cache School Board will be mostly discussing the annual financial reports at their next regular school board meeting. The district financial audit report, annual financial reports and budget reports take up the bulk of the agenda items. The board will also consider a declaration for National Arts and Humanities month plus a request to approve the Utah Consolidated Application. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 2035 North 1200 East in North Logan. It is open to the public.
Logan City may be charging an eight percent profit on sewer services for neighboring communities. Transfers — discovered by Nibley City Manager, Larry Anhder and Smithfield City Manager, Jim Gass — from the Logan Sewer Treatment fund to the Logan General fund were $291,296 in 2008, $291,396 in 2009 and $302,080 proposed for 2010.
The End is Near! Well, the end of the 2010 Harvest Market anyway. The Richmond Harvest Market at Rockhill is winding down for the year. The last day of the market will be Saturday, October 16th, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at 563 South State Street in Richmond.
The Smithfield City Council is scheduled to meet Wednesday evening to consider: an agreement with Hyde Park on an annexation boundary between communities, Summit Drive, sewer rates with Logan City, Civic Center upgrade, library report, tree trimming. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13 at the new city hall. Everyone is invited to attend.
Each month the administration at Sky View sends around a ballot where the teachers nominate kids from each class to be the students of the month. The students are evaluated based on attendance, timely submission of homework, class citizenship, participation, grades.
The Sky View Varsity hockey team played their local rivals, the Cache Valley Wild, and beat them 3-1. Saturday’s game brings Sky View to 5 wins, 1 tie and 0 losses against the Wild.
Cats generally don’t like water, and last night the Bobcats showed no love for the Lakers of Bonneville High School beating them 38-6.
Smithfield City leaders, employees, and residents met Thursday (September 30) evening to dedicate the new Smithfield City Hall. Mayor Darrell Simmons read a dedicatory statement in the new council chambers. Then city personnel and residents toured the new office building. The Sky View varsity hockey team beat the Jordan Beetdiggers by 5 to 0 Wednesday evening. Tanner Gray scored two goals with Jake Hill, Jaxon Wright and Austin Gray adding one each.
The Sky View Bobcats used six different players in scoring nine times cementing a decisive 63-14 win over the Ogden Tigers. The Bobcats move to 2-5-0 Overall (1-2-0 Region), in a thrilling game filled with twists, turns, and various personnel changes throughout the game.
Sky View JV Hockey played the Riverton Silver Wolves on Saturday, October 2nd at the Bountiful Rec. Center. Final score: Bobcats 5, Silver Wolves 4. It was a close game with the score tied most of the game. Michael Szorik scored the winning goal in the last minute and a half of the game. Adam Snow scored 4 goals.
Students and teachers of Summit, Sunrise and — the new — Birch Creek elementary schools raised $26,000 for their schools at the Tri-School Trot Fundraiser held on Friday, September 17. Around 1,600 students participated in running laps at the Sky View high school track. Donors pledged funds to the schools for each lap ran by the students.
Smithfield City is holding an open house for the new Smithfield city hall. Everyone is invited to tour the new building this Thursday, September 30, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Logan High School Grizzlies rolled into Smithfield, scored first and last, handing Sky View their second region defeat in as many weeks beating the Bobcats 35-14.
Negotiations continue between Logan and Cache County School Districts over changing property boundaries. Superintendent Steven Norton reported to the school board Thursday evening that Logan missed the opportunity to use state law to move land into the district when Logan city annexed properties. The law only applies before municipal annexation.
HYDE PARK—The Hyde Park, North Logan and Smithfield city councils met jointly Thursday at the Hyde Park city hall to discuss how they can better their cities for the public.
The Smithfield City wastewater system has run 21 years without a rate increase, but dark clouds are on the horizon. City Manager, Jim Gass, reported to the council Wednesday evening that the lift station near the airport needs replacement and the Logan treatment plant will probably need an upgrade.
The Smithfield Fire Department will be testing and interviewing potential recruits for a handful of volunteer firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician positions at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 30 at the fire station, 325 West 100 North.
The Cache County School Board will meet Thursday evening to discuss: property exchange with Logan City, broadcasting future board meetings online, updated high school graduation requirements, comprehensive counseling program, employee retirement request. Following the regular meeting the board will meet in a private, executive session to discuss purchasing real estate.

SMITHFIELD—Somebody’s Attic thrift store provides a glimpse into a community that loves to give. The merchandise is all donated, the employees are all volunteers and all of the profit goes to benefit local charities like Community Abuse Prevention Services Agency (CAPSA).
The Sky View Bobcats clipped the wings of the Box Elder Bees and hold them to only 92 yards in the air, but the Bees put up 280 yards on the ground and ran wild over Sky View in a 14-33 Bobcat loss. After six consecutive Bobcat victories over the Bees, Box Elder hands Sky View their first region loss this year behind the strong running game of junior quarterback, Britton Gunter, and freshman, Shad Watson.

After struggling in the first three weeks of the season the Sky View Bobcats sported their gold jerseys against the Orem Tigers, and find the Midas touch in a convincing 29-6 victory.
Sky View High School and the Smithfield community have enjoyed many great activities this week. Tuesday night Hansen Field at Sky View High School, saw some of Sky View’s fiercest female felines do battle with one another in the annual Powder-puff game (See photos courtesy of Bud Covington).
Meet the Cache County School Board candidates, tonight, at the Cache County School District administration offices. All of the candidates running for board positions will be there. The event begins at 7 p.m. at the Professional Development Building (2035 N 1200 E, North Logan).

The 4-A Sky View Bobcats knew they had their hands full Friday night when they traveled to Sandy, Utah to take on the 5-A Jordan High Beetdiggers. In the second quarter the Bobcats showed some signs of life putting up three scores, but their pulses faded as the high powered Jordan offense handed them a 63-21 defeat.
The Sky View football team will be traveling to Sandy to take on the state 5-A powerhouse Beetdiggers of Jordan High School. A bumped and bruised Bobcat team will be looking for their first win of the year against Jordan.
For the second week in a row the Sky View Bobcats have an impressive first half against an in-state 5-A powerhouse. Unfortunately injuries and the first four minutes of the third quarter proved to be the Bobcats undoing in a 45-17 route.
The Logan School District is requesting changing district boundaries between Logan and Cache County School Districts. Specifically they wish to annex land south-west of the airport, 20 acres north of 600 South near 1400 West and the proposed apartment building at 700 S, Logan which is part of the Riverwoods development. Thursday evening the Cache County School Board approved a meeting between the two school board presidents and superintendents.
As Cache County kids start boarding those big yellow buses and heading back to school, Superintendent Steven Craig Norton calls their first days back “a great start to a great year.”
The new Smithfield Youth Council leadership was sworn in at Wednesday night’s city council meeting. Brent Perez, youth council mayor; Jacob Low, mayor pro tem; Matt Dewey, treasurer; Liz Olsen, historian; Garrett Mantz, councilman; and Whitney Baker, recorder stood before the Smithfield City Council while Dean Clegg, city recorder, read to them the oath of office.
LOGAN—Former Bingham County Coroner Kyle B. Lindsay made his first appearance in Utah’s 1st District Court Tuesday. Lindsay is charged with five felony counts including burglary, possession of a controlled substance and obtaining a prescription drug under false pretenses.
