The procession stopped, a quick beat pulsed through the walls, and thus began the 2010-2011 Sky View Vistaun Review Monday evening.

TAYLORSVILLE—Following Sky View High School’s victory over Snow Canyon on Thursday, Lady Bobcat coach Paul Hansen forecasted a potential semifinal matchup against Springville in the Girls 4A State Basketball Tournament at Salt Lake Community College by calling Red Devils’ star Lexi Eaton “a handful.” He used the same description after their matchup on Friday, which saw Springville end Sky View’s season in a hard-fought 53-49 victory.

From the sweet strains of Concerto in G Minor to a song mix from Enchanted and Coldplay’s Viva La Vida, Sky View’s mixed choir, women’s vocal ensemble, and orchestra treated their audience to a night of classy, fun, and regal music.

TAYLORSVILLE — Count the Sky View Bobcats girls’ basketball team as a group who believes patience is a virtue, as they demonstrated that skill en route to a 57-49 victory over Snow Canyon High on Thursday in the second round of the 4A Girls’ State Basketball Tournament.

The Smithfield City Council meets tonight to consider: possible annexation of 10 acres south of town, fencing property at 400 South and 300 West, setting the 2011 fee schedule, updating the flood damage prevention ordinance, setting a date for opening the recycle area for public use. The meeting is in the new City Hall (96 S Main) at 6 p.m.

The Sky View Bobcats hadn’t won a Region title in quite some time. In fact it had been seven long years since the Bobcats had claimed the title.

RICHMOND — Thanks to fifth-grade teachers Carolyn Butterfield and Lynette Dent, Park Elementary students are learning first-hand the rewards of service — and involving the whole community.

The Logan High Grizzlies came to play tonight and turned in a tough defensive showing. Logan put a scare into Sky View players and fans in the first half of the game building an eight point lead before Sky View fought their way back pulling within one just before half. In the second half Sky View continued to chisel away at Logan, eventually building a second half lead that they would not relinquish.

The Sky View girls basketball team staved off a third quarter comeback to run away with the senior night victory over cross-town rival Logan, 62-41.

The Cache County School Board will meet Thursday evening to consider: federal surplus property program, English language center report, energy education report, South Cache Trustlands plan, declare River Heights church as surplus, cell phone usage. The board meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at the District Technology Center (2035 N 1200 E) on Wednesday, February 17, 2011. The meeting is open to the public.

With a few sweeps of a giant, fabric tornado, audience members attending the Sky High Players’ production of The Wizard of Oz last night were transported somewhere over the rainbow, where monkeys fly and witches reside. Filled with flying cast members, dancers, and choirs, it was a musical made possible by hours of behind-the-scenes work and practice.

Twenty Bobcat wrestlers battled in the 4A Northern Divisional Tournament held at Box Elder High School this year, and when the night was over six advanced to the State Championship Tournament. The wrestlers that moved on battled valiantly in the tournament, and the two Anderson’s on the team placed in the top five spots. Chet Anderson qualified 5th in the 189 pound weight class, while Brayden Anderson finished on top, repeating as state champion for the second year in a row.

It took three overtimes and a lot of foul shots to do it, but the Mountain Crest High School men’s basketball team returned to Smithfield and again defeated the Sky View Bobcats, 62-57. Sky View opened up the game on a 16-7 run that carried them through six minutes of the first quarter with relative ease, but Mountain Crest would not go away. The Mustangs went on a 7-2 run of their own at the end of the first quarter to pull within five.

SMITHFIELD — The Sky View girls fell in close game to first place region rival Mountain Crest Tuesday night, 58-52. Junior guard Dannika Webb led all scorers with 16 points and three 3-pointers in the loss followed by fellow guard Maury Beorchia and forward Maddie Day with nine points each.

Updates to the weapons ordinance are on the agenda for the Smithfield City Council meeting. The changes are reportedly intended to bring the ordinance in line with state law. The council is also scheduled to consider: two-lot subdivision for David Olson on 400 West, Smithfield Implement’s request to display items on the grass east of the store during the summer, write off uncollectible utility bills, agreement for “local government access channel services”, mutual aid agreement for water and wastewater agencies. The meeting will be held at the city hall (96 S Main) on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 6 p.m.

Sky View has announced the students whose stellar performance in the classroom and excellent citizenship in the school have earned them the honor of Student of the Month.

The Lady Cat’s were pretty in pink tonight when they took the floor in honor of cancer awareness night. The entire team got a chance to see some floor time as Sky View spent four quarters systematically dismantling the Tigers from Ogden.

The Sky View men’s wrestling team finished fourth out of six teams this weekend in the Region 5 Tournament held at Mountain Crest High School in Hyrum. In a tournament that came down to the wire for the top few teams, the winner was decided in the final championship round.

The crowd was loud and neither team would roll over and die Friday night when the Sky View Bobcat men’s basketball team (10-4, 6-2 Region) traveled to Logan to face their valley rival Grizzlies (5-9, 3-5 Region). The Bobcats held off Grizzly attacks in the third and fourth quarters to pick up a victory in Grizzly territory.

Sky View junior Whitney Alvey came off the bench and hit 3 three-pointers in the second quarter in her team’s win over region rival Logan on Thursday night, 58-44.

The Board of Adjustment was disbanded Wednesday evening by the Smithfield City Council. In it’s place are the Appeal Authorities — an individual, board and council designated to appeal city decisions. Jim Gass presented a chart (above) showing which decisions will be appealed by which Appeal Authority. “Eighty percent of the time the appeal will go to the administrative officer,” said Gass.

Sky View used post play and shooting to come up with a win Wednesday night over Bonneville, 67-49. Bobcat junior center Casey Oliverson scored the first six points of the game and finished the first quarter with 12.

The Bonneville Lakers swiped a close win from the Lady Bobcats Tuesday night, 47-50. The game was deadlocked during all four quarters. Sky View’s largest lead was 9, which came in the second quarter when the Lady Bobcats went on a 8-0 run to go up 25-16. Bonneville promptly answered back with an 11-0 run of their own to go up 25-27 as the half ended.

The Smithfield City Council will meet Wednesday evening to consider: establishing an appeal authority, repealing the Board of Adjustment, final plat for Stone Haven PUD, public hearing for budget amendment, lease from Zions Bank for financing the new police station, presentation from Cache Chamber of Commerce, appoint Mayor Pro Tem, tree committee appointments. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at 96 S Main Street on Wednesday, January 26, 2011.

The Sky View Men’s Basketball team rode the strong inside presences of Junior Casey Oliverson and Seniors Jordan Nielsen and Don Corbell to a 50-40 road win in a very lively Mountain Crest Gym on Friday, January 21.
