HYDE PARK — Beautifying roadways and making them safer were on the agenda for the Planning and Zoning Commission Wednesday. They discussed maintaining a 99-foot right-of-way on 3700 North St. but decreasing the amount of asphalt.

SMITHFIELD — Members of the City Council found themselves in disagreement Wednesday as two ordinances were introduced and discussed. Though public hearings lacked participation, the council thoroughly addressed both issues.

HYDE PARK — It’s going to get a little easier to pay your bills for Hyde Park, and the City Council has approved the plan for online payment.

RICHMOND — The Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday approved the rezone of an area in southwest Richmond to light industrial, so the land could house a biotech fertilizer company. The rezone passed by a vote of 3-2.

RICHMOND — Pepperidge Farm will soon double the amount of Goldfish crackers being produced at its Cache Valley plant. They plan on doubling production by building an extension to the plant.

NORTH LOGAN — The City Council heard a proposal to improve Meadow View Park from Public Works Director Alan Luce. The proposed improvements include a walking path and a water feature. The improvements are projected to cost around $120,000.

HYDE PARK — When you drive down the road, you might not pay attention to how many feet are between the road and someone’s property, or how many side roads connect to that road. Hyde Park City Council pays attention, and those were hot topics at Wednesday’s council meeting.

NORTH LOGAN — The Green Canyon Farms corn maze is confusing by design, but a planned boundary change could prove difficult for its operators to sort out, maze owners told the City Council Jan. 20.

SMITHFIELD — Kris Monson, a City Councilwoman for 10 years, stood before the Planning Commission Wednesday night to propose modifications to Smithfield’s animal rights ordinances. “I’m just going to propose an idea,” Monson said. “If you don’t like this, I’m not going to work very hard.”

RICHMOND — Members of the City Council are protecting their water supply by allowing the proposed Cherry Peak Ski Area to tap into the Richmond sewer system.

SMITHFIELD — City Council approved an ordinance that will allow people to own more chickens at Wednesday night’s meeting. Before this amendment, Smithfield residents were allowed to own four chickens; now they are able to own up to 14 chickens in a residential area.

SMITHFIELD — The Smithfield City Council signed the cost participation agreement Friday for the Logan Northern Canal rebuilding project. Smithfield, Logan, North Logan, Hyde Park, and Cache County have all agreed to sign the agreement.

LOGAN — The Cache County Planning and Zoning Commission reached no conclusion Thursday night concerning a conditional use permit for a proposed ski resort in Richmond.

RICHMOND — The Planning and Zoning Commission refused to grant a building variance at their meeting Tuesday to a man who wants to build a two-car garage on his property.

SMITHFIELD — First Lt. Earl Simmons presented the City Council on Wednesday with a proposal to participate in a Community Covenant program. The program is set up to help the community show support for military families. The program focuses mostly on families that have a member deployed on active duty, but they are also open to past and inactive military members.

NORTH LOGAN – One couple can sleep peacefully, knowing their tenants have been granted legal rights to occupy their home after Thursday’s North Logan Planning Commission meeting.

NORTH LOGAN – Passage of an ordinance to change regulations for feral animal euthanization and a committee report concerning traffic safety issues were both discussed at the City Council meeting Wednesday.

RICHMOND—Sewers dominated the discussion at the City Council meeting Tuesday. A resident expressed concerns about high sewer rates and an engineer warned of possible sewage problems and presented remedies.

HYDE PARK—A plan nearly three years in the making may finally see daylight at the start of 2012.

SMITHFIELD — Parking will now be restricted on Summit Drive on weekdays, after a Wednesday night City Council vote. The council voted 4-1 to ban parking on either side of the street on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Parking will be allowed on weekends and holidays.

HYDE PARK — The city is taking it down a few decibels. Two new ordinances were brought to the floor at Wednesday’s City Council meeting that could make Hyde Park a little more quiet.

NORTH LOGAN — A move to update the North Logan city wage scale failed to pass in a 2-1 vote at Wednesday’s City Council meeting.

RICHMOND — The city’s firefighters will have something new to smile about this fall. A $21,774 federal grant to enhance the city’s firefighting equipment was announced at the City Council meeting Tuesday.

RICHMOND — Pet pig permits, water and sewer models and private property concerns were discussed at the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission meeting Tuesday.

LOGAN—North Logan Parks and Recreation Director Alan Luce presented a plan to the Cache County Council Tuesday night for sports fields in the Meadow View Park area behind the Eccles Ice Arena.

In a night where there was great respect expressed for the members of the Smithfield Mayor and City Council Members, a civilized and impassioned plea from residents sent a message to the council that now is not the time for a proposed 19.6% property tax increase. The council then responded with a well organized and educational presentation on the nature of the general fund, and a promise to look for areas of further cuts before making the deciding vote.

A 90-unit apartment complex is one step closer to construction in Smithfield. Last night the Smithfield City Council voted to rezone the property behind Lee’s Marketplace to multi-family residential. The proposed design would be townhouse-like apartments with clubhouse, swimming pool, and large green spaces.

RICHMOND—The draft horse pull and open horse show that are usually held during Richmond’s Black and White Days celebration will be held this Saturday, June 18, in the field behind LD’s Café. Organizers have draft horse teams entered from throughout the northwest and Canada.

After some consideration, the Smithfield City Council approved of Ordinance 11-08 Thursday night, which allowed the annexation of a 10.10 acre plot of land East of Lee’s. They also approved a resolution amending the fiscal year 2010-2011 budget for Smithfield City.

SMITHFIELD—With temperatures set to rise significantly in the coming weeks, flooding was a primary concern at the Smithfield City Council meeting Wednesday night. With the rise of Summit Creek after rainy weather last week, and springs west of town haven’t been existent in more than 30 years coming alive again, Mayor Darrell Simmons said city crews have been preparing day and night, and that the they are well prepared for what may come.

RICHMOND—The first in a series of water rate hikes will start as early as July, due to the city’s proposed $5.14 million water improvement project that includes a new 2 million-gallon water tank, City Council members said at Tuesday’s meeting.
